Pregnancy Test 

Generally for confirmation of pregnancy blood or Urine tests and a pelvic exam are used.

• Urine Pregnancy Test
  Urine Pregnancy test is most simple way to confirm pregnancy .This test is very simple .For this test  buy a pregnancy testing kit available in medical stores, two weeks after a missed period or earlier. It is totally based on the pregnancy hormone in the urine. Early morning sample of urine is preferred. For this test take first urine specimen of the day testing as it has more concentration of pregnancy hormone. For this test two drops of urine is required. Urine is collected in a clean, dry container.  If the solution changes color and becomes lighter, then it means you are pregnant. Tests use the principle of 2 colored bands appearing if you are pregnant and only one band appearing if you are not. Test is done within few minutes and we can able to see result. If the urine changes color, the test is positive. It may happen that a test result comes negative although you may be, in reality pregnant. Some time test result can show incorrect results, specially in case of  ectopic pregnancy. Pregnancy can be detected as early as a day or two from the missed period.

  The testing has been done very early in pregnancy. In such cases, if the test is repeated after one week, it may become positive.

You can take a pregnancy test from the day that your period is due. It is 100% reliable pregnancy test , if performed correctly, they are over 95% accurate. • Pelvic Exam
  Pelvic examination is done when urine pregnancy test is positive or if you have any symptoms of pregnancy even if the urine test is negative. For pelvic examination you must consult a gynecologist. Generally doctor prefer pelvic exam usually after six week from the last menstrual period, so as to confirm pregnancy. Pelvic examination means  physician inserts two fingers into the vagina alongside the cervix while the other hand presses the lower abdomen and directs the pelvic organs towards the examining fingers. When women is more relaxed your abdominal and vaginal muscles, the more comfortable and thorough will be the exam. Through pelvic examination we can evaluate the size of the uterus, tubes and ovaries. After examination the doctor determines how many weeks you have been pregnant by evaluating uterine enlargements, initially detectable about 4 weeks after conception.
  
   

• Blood Pregnancy test
  Blood pregnancy test are the most simple as well as the most sensitive and reliable of pregnancy tests. The basic type is called the radioimmunoassay (RIA) or  HCG. This test is used for detecting for any pregnancy complications mostly such as a tubal pregnancy, but it can also be used to determine if a woman is pregnant before the missed period. In blood pregnancy test a  blood sample is taken and the it can take one hour for result.
  
   

Sonography is also one of reliable method to test pregnancy.

abdominal sonography, scanning is done through a full bladder to see the uterus. You find pregnancy sac in which the fetus is enclosed. Sonography is not necessary if, Your periods are fairly regular; you are not having any problem. Sonography is necessary if Your periods are irregular, You are not sure of your dates or in some case  You have any bleeding after missing a period. Some times doctors suggest sonography  when they have doubt about  abnormal pregnancy especially ectopic or extra uterine pregnancy.
