BCG is nothing but Bacille Calmette-Guérin .It is
a live vaccine to protect infant and
children's against tuberculosis also called as
(TB) and TB meningitis and military TB. In many
countries where tuberculosis infection and
tuberculosis diseases are most common disease
, for those countries World Health Organization
strongly endorses the of BCG in national
immunization programme to decrease the harmful
effects of TB infection in the first year of life.
A nodule appears 3-4 weeks after BCG vaccination.
It may soften in 2-4 weeks. No application or
fomentation is necessary.
DPT
DPT vaccine protects children's and infant
from 3 diseases such as diphtheria, pertussis and
tetanus. The vaccine is give in three dosages within
6months and a booster at 18 months and at 4-6 years
of age. In some cases there may be mild fever and
pain, redness and swelling at the site of the
injection. A small painless lump may remain for a
few weeks.
OPV
OPV is oral polio vaccine drops for protection
against polio. Some countries such as India polio
immunization program is done under govt.
Hepatitis B
Hepatitis B injection is given for jaundice
after birth while the mother and child are in
hospital.
Hib meningitis can lead to learning disability,
visual impairment, hearing loss and mental
retardation .Moreover ,it can also be fetal.
But now protection against Hib meningitis is made
easy through combination vaccine.
