Constipation In Babies

Constipation is most common problem in babies. Constipation observed in those babies who have low-fiber diet, having no physical activity ,insufficient taking of fluid substance, insufficient water taking ,or delaying going to bathroom.

After birth infants will pass a thick, green-black stool in the first 2 day.  When breast feed start  infant stool stool becomes more yellow-green.  In starting month infants have stools daily, but some infants have them only every two to three days. If infant totally depend upon breast feed then they have soft stools but they have depend upon other milk they face digestion problem and have hard stool.

Breast feed infant  do frequent stool as compare to Formula-fed babies tend to have drier. Constipation is rarely observed in breastfed babies .In case of breastfeed infants, after birth it seems they have a stool every time they eat. But after a few weeks the pattern can change to a stool every two or three days or even once a week.

Some time if your baby strains to pass a stool,  or  feel uncomforted he may not be constipated. Babies pull up legs when they pass stool, some time become red in the face. If  stool soft and passes without pain, then this feature are normal. If your infant appears to be having difficulty then they might face problem of constipation

Many infant who depend upon breast feed have loose stools, but some are incline to do something to infrequent bowel movements. In daily life bowel habit is not change but in case of some stress or  traveling can also reason for constipation or other changes in bowel habits.

Some times when babies pass stool or gas ,babies make deep rough noise or  turn bright red for a couple of minutes. The main important  is for parents your baby is not in distress or is constipated.

The breast feed infant have particular symptoms relating to the infrequent bowel movement such as not completing stool at once in day  ,pain on the passage of stools,  some time blood in the stools.

Best method for avoiding constipation (for infant )is give fruit juice such as apple, grape etc  2-3 time in a day .For  infant who more than 4 month give solid food which contain high fiber . Do not give any medicine or laxative for constipation problem.

The main question is
Why babies getting constipated?
How can mother tell if her baby face problem of constipation?
Why they are constipated?
How mother take care  after constipation?

In most of time breastfeed infant pas stool after every feed. There is no particular number or schedule for passing stool. His or her stool pattern depend upon  what she eat , movement or activity.

If you're worried about your baby may be constipated, there are a few symptoms  for identifying whether your baby face problem of constipation or not
  • First  and main symptom is infrequent bowel movements than her  or his normal , especially if baby hasn't had one in three or more days .If baby   has hard, dry stools that are difficult for passing such stool .In such case baby may be constipated.

  • In some case  baby have liquid stools  don't assume it's symptoms diarrhea in fact, it may be one of symptoms of constipation. past the blockage in the lower intestine result  in liquid stool .

  • Babies who have exclusively depend upon breastfeed are rarely constipated, because breast milk has the perfect balance of fat and protein, so it produces stools that are  always soft  no matter  your baby hasn't had one for several days.

  • If case of other milk , possibility of constipation is more. In such case concern your doctor about milk or formula milk.

  • When weaning food is introduced your baby becomes mildly constipated . That's often because rice cereal, usually the first food given during this transition period, is low in fiber.

  • If your baby getting insufficient fluid,  babies become dehydrated and  try to absorbing more fluid  then drinks or eat . This  result is hard, dry bowel movements that are difficult to pass.

  • constipation can be caused by an underlying medical condition such as hypothyroidism, some metabolic disorders, some food allergies and botulism. If your baby passes hard, painful stools, you'll want her doctor to check her out, just to make sure.

constipation is caused by a  Hirschsprung's disease, which is typically diagnosed within the first few weeks of life.
