Care During Pregnancy [Care in Pregnancy ] 

Care  should start before 3 month. Both husband and wife have to visit doctor for medical checkup.

1. Diet :-
The diet during pregnancy should be adequate to provide for maintenance of maternal health, needs of the growing fetus ,strength & vitality required during labor and successful lactation. In pregnancy there is increased growth of maternal tissue, fetus and placenta .The increased calorie requirement is to the external 300 over the non-pregnancy state during second half of pregnancy.
The pregnancy diet should be light, nutritious, easily digestible and rich in protein, minerals & vitamins. Dietetic should be given with due consideration to socioeconomic condition, food habits & taste of the individuals.Eat  clean, pure fresh ,hot cooked food made at home. Non vegetarian. food and egg also packed food, jam, juices pickles should be avoided. Wheat flour oily and spicy food should be avoided. Outside food such as bhelpuri, panipuri should be avoided. Home made butter, fruits, vegetables spouted grains should be included in diet. Over eating and fasting should be avoided.


2. Antenatal Hygiene:
a) Rest & Sleep:- The patient may continue her usual activities thought pregnancy. However hard & strenuous work should be avoided specially in the 1st trimester & last 6 week.
There is individual variation of amount of sleep required .However ,on an average ,the patient should be in bed for 10 hrs.(8 hrs at night &2 hrs at noon) specially in last 6 week. In late pregnancy lateral posture is more comfortable.

b) Bowel :- There is tendency of constipation during pregnancy which may be related with backache, abdominal discomfort. Regular bowel movement may be facilitated by regerdation of diet taking plenty of fluids, vegetables, & milk or mild laxative.

c) Bathing :- The women should take daily bath but be careful against slipping in the bathroom due to imbalance.

d) Clothing ,shoe & belt :- Pregnant women should wear loose but comfortable garments. High heel shoes should better be avoided in advanced pregnancy.

e) Dental care: - The dentists should be consulted at the earliest ,if necessary because extraction , filling of the curies tooth, comfortably in the 2nd trimester.

f) Care of the breasts:- If  the nipples are normal, nothing is to be done beyond ordinary cleanliness. If to be done in later months by manipulation or by using shields.

g) Coitus:- Coitus should be avoided during 1st trimester preferably during the time of missed periods & also during last 6 weeks .For fear of abortion in the former & introduction of infection & premature labor in later periods .

h) Travel:- Travel by vehicles having jerks ,better to be avoided specially in 1st trimester & last 6 weeks. The long journey is preferably be limited to the 2nd trimester. Rail route is preferable to bus route. Aircraft obviously have no risk.

 

 



 
 
i) Smoking & alcohol:- In view of the fact that smoking is injurious to health, it is better to stop smoking not only during pregnancy  but even thereafter. Heavy smokers have smaller babies and there is also more chance of abortion.
Similarly, alcohol consumption is to be drastically curtalised or avoided ,if possible, so as to prevent "fetal maldevelopment"  or  "growth retardation" . Do not take drinks, tobacco, cigrates ,nut, betel.

j) Insecticides and cleaning products:- To handle insecticides during pregnancy should must be avoid, but cleaning products if ( not more concentrated or poisonous ) have not risk to handle. But most safe before using cleaning products if possible should be diluted.

k) Color hair :-  Should be avoid during pregnancy or if possible use herbal colours.

l) Atmosphere:- Insecticides, harmful chemical, Xray, fumes, strong scent or spray should be totally avoided, Poisonous smoke should be avoided. Happy environmental should be maintained. Sad movie, action and horror movie, dramas, books should be avoided, Do not marry with close relative to avoid for contagious diseases.

m) Medicine:- Antibiotics, painkiller should be avoided. Avoid unnecessary checkup and test. Both husband and wife should have good health within 3 months and they should take herbal medicine.
