Bathing Your Baby improve emotional attachment of
mother to child. Bathing is done in such a way that
this moments is enjoyable time between mother and
your baby. Bathing your baby becomes a special
responsibility which can be enjoyed by a new parent. Do
not take your eyes off baby. During first six week of life it is not
necessarily need a full bath every day. Wash or
clean baby with soft wash cloth or cotton wool and
some warm water especially till the baby's umbilical
cord drops off. It is important not to get the belly
button area wet, where the umbilical cord is still
attached. To prevent cross infection it is not
necessary to do routine baby bath. In starting wash
baby daily because the excess vernix, blood or
meconium are wiped off from the skin using sterile
moist swabs and then make the skin using soft towel.
Massage your baby with baby oil before bathing ,Once you start on the water bath routine, it is very
good for your babies. Massaging and bathing is very
wonderful way to express your love with your baby.
There are many benefit of massage i.e. food absorption,
promotes sleep, builds immunity and develops muscle
tone and coordination.
In compare to bathtub bath seat is more comfortable
to your child, but some times it will not protect the child
from injury or drowning. Following are safety tips for your
baby...
- First you can assembled all things you have
need bathing supplies, clothes and towels .
- Place the bath seat in the tub so that baby cannot
reach faucets or the spout.
- While giving bath never leave room for any
reason.
- In starting you can feel that bathing will
be challenging and hard ,but after some day it
will get easier.
- For bathing keep room warm and draft-free.
- Before bathing check bathwater temperature
on the inside of your wrist. Never put your baby
into a bath when the water is still running
.First put cold water in the bath first, then
hot.
- In case of
small babies, use a
towel in the bottom of
the sink or tub so he or
she doesn't slip.
- Fill five inches of water for bath in case
of small infants i.e. newborn and six month
baby.
- In case of old baby after 6 months teach your child to sit in the bath at all
times.
- Some babies doesn't like daily bath. There's no real need for a daily
bath. It's totally depend on you how often you
bathe your baby, and provided you wash off any
obvious muck, your baby will be clean enough.
- Use soaps, shampoos and bubble baths may
cause your baby's skin to become dry and
sensitive. Choose a mild soap or baby bath
product designed especially for babies.
- If you want to massage your baby take ordinary baby
oil or almond oil which is soothing to the skin.
Instead of baby oil, you could use cooled paste of
turmeric powder mixed with milk, boiled together
provided your baby does not have an allergy.
- Baby Soap instead of soap you can use green gram
flour or besan flour
Foam Pad or rubber mat ( to lay on the bottom of the
sink so that she won't slip)
