Asthma & Allergy

Asthma is very common disease observed in all ages i.e. among children, teens and adults. It is a disease that causes the airways of the lungs to tighten.

Allergy asthma  is also called as Bronchial Asthma, Allergic Rhinobronchitis, Allergic Bronchitis, Combined Allergic Rhinitis & Asthma Syndrome

Asthma is a disease that cause mainly due to breathing. There seems to be an increase in the amount of asthma all over the world, especially in children. People of all ages get asthma but 50 per cent of sufferers are children, mostly boys, under 10 years of age group. Among adults, women are more likely to develop asthma than men.

Asthma is reaction to substances that are generally not harmful. See also: hay fever allergy to mold, dander, dust food allergies drug allergies allergy testing allergic reactions

Another word like asthma is Allergy or hypersensitivity is an abnormal reaction to protein substances that occur naturally.

A person who is suffer from asthma have sensitive airways. When person can't breath properly it result to asthma attack, because of of swelling and tightness of the muscles the airways become narrow .Due to swelling person feel difficulty to breath normally.  When your lungs aren’t getting enough air to breathe then asthma attack occurred.

Following are main symptoms which can be responsible for asthma attacks:

  • Trouble breathing

  • Wheezing when breathing out.

  • Coughing

  • Chest pain

  • Chest tightness

  • shortness of breath.

  • Feeling breathless when you exercise, when you have hay fever.

Smoking mothers, low birth weight, a lack of exposure to infection in early life and traffic fumes have all factors increase chances for asthma. Less draughty houses resulting in a higher concentration of house dust mites and cooking gases may also be increase chances of asthma.

Various factors such as environmental factor are responsible for asthma such as allergies, infections, lifestyle and importantly diet have on the development of asthma. Also genetic factor play major role for asthma previous cases within families and the concordance for asthma in identical twins and also it may be transfer from mother to fetus i.e. heredity increases a persons chances of developing asthma.

There are many triggers that can cause an asthma attack, some of them are:

-  dust animal dander or foods

- Smoke ,environmental or cigarette

- after Exercise

- Atmosphere such as Cold air

Asthma cannot be cured. But, with the help of a doctor and, you can make sure your child stays active and healthy. The number of people who die from asthma is falling. Most people with asthma can live a healthy and active life.

Although allergic asthma is not curable, it is a treatable condition. The patient should take precautions about allergic substances. If the patient knows what substance to avoid, it is much easier to develop ways to avoid it.

It is not done regularly or always to avoid Allergens. So for this , patients may need medication to help control their symptoms. Drugs are helpful to relax the muscles and open up the air passages and also helpful to reduce swelling of the airways. These medications may be used together to treat both short- and long-term symptoms.

Allergic asthma means an allergic inflammation in the lower airway of the respiratory system. It involves the simultaneous presence of both asthma and respiratory allergies, particularly hay fever (allergic rhinitis).

When the patient's body immune system identifies a harmless substance as being dangerous and releases antibodies to fight the substance then allergy occurs. Allergen means any substance or any environment may cause an allergic reaction and any substance that causes this reaction.

The phenomenon of breathing is :

Here we described the normal respiratory system of body. The main airway of the body is about 2-3cm across. It divides into its main branches i.e. right and left lung, which divide further, like the branches of a tree, to supply air to all parts of the lungs in the body.

Anything or any substances that makes them contract will narrow the passages, which makes it more difficult for the air to pass through noise.

Asthmatics tend to be sensitive to various types of irritants in the atmosphere which can trigger this contraction response from the bronchial muscles.

Treatment of Asthma :

Asthma can be controlled with proper asthma management. The first step is environmental control. Some changes in environment  affect asthmatic person, they can control its impact on their health.

Following are some ways to change the environment that are responsible to increase chance of an asthma attack:

  • When any person in the house have asthma then Clean the house at least once a week and wear a mask while doing it .

  • Avoid pets with fur or feathers

  • Wash weekly sheets, pillow cases, mattress pads

  • Encase the mattress, pillows and box springs in dust-proof covers

  • Use the air conditioner

  • Keep the low humidity in the house

  • The patient suggest to  monitor lung function regularly.  Lung function decreases before symptoms of an asthma attack - usually about two to three days prior.

  • Asthma can be triggered by external agents, such as internal reactions within the body some substance in the atmosphere which are breathed in, or by any external factor.

  •  A virus or bacteria, chemical fumes or other substances at the workplace and certain medicines, such as aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may also cause asthma.

  • Make sure you use your inhaler device correctly.
