Poisoning and Accidents

Generally Accidental poisoning occur in child when
they start moving and walking. The poisoning and
accident occur due to following reason
- When children's start crawling and walking near
about 1st year, so children's become every active and
they try to take every object by mouth. This is the
main reason for accidental poisoning. In children's
accidental poisoning occur in between 2 year is near
about 50% and 20% occur in 1 year of life.
- In large families mother is busy in house work
and she is careless in storage of poisonous
household substance.
- The other problem is space in small house there
is a little storage facility. So poisonous substance
stored in accessible place so in such criteria there
is high risk of poisoning.
- In some cases insecticides, medicines, naphthalene
balls and kerosenes are common things lead to
poisoning. When children's stay near workshop for
repair of old automobile lead batteries or
manufacture of lead typesets for printing press in
such case children's suffer from lead poisoning.
- In rural or urban areas poisoning varies due to
exposures to different types of potential poison.
- If patterns of medicine and insecticides are
change new chemicals are being developed and this is
also one cause of poisoning.

How to manage accidental
poisoning:-
- Emergency treatment
- Take history and from information of parent
determine what, when and how much of poison was
ingested or inhaled in such way identify poison.
- After identifying poison first remove poison from
children's. Remove poison from skin by washing in case
of insecticides. In case of other poison induce
vomiting and are largely eliminated, this treatment
done in case of kerosone poisoning.
